My grandchildren call me Monster Grandpa. When this comes to the attention of an outsider I like to watch their eyes, because it is fun to see the look of concern change to amusement as they learn that I earned that name by playing “Monster” with them from the time they were toddlers until they considered themselves too old for such things. I can remember Benny being so frightened that I stopped, thinking I might be overdoing it, but to my delight he said “Do it again Grandpa”. Actually, when I think about it, I guess I learned this Monster stuff with my children. My son Thatcher, perhaps unknowingly gave me kudos with the remark, “Sometimes I don’t know if you are the real dad!”
I knew this would be my title when I listened to Zachery’s payers and he included the phrase “Bless Monster Grandpa”.
